LEVEL8 vs Samsonite Freeform vs Amazon Basics: Check Carry-On Dimensions First

• Honey, Be Honest

Carry-on luggage compared — LEVEL8 Grace Expandable 20-inch in a dark HBH editorial composition

Honey’s verdict

Before we admire the suitcase, get the tape measure. All three listings exceed at least one side of Delta’s 22 × 14 × 9-inch carry-on limit. With that settled, LEVEL8 gets Amazing for front laptop access, Samsonite is Good for conventional organized packing, and Amazon Basics is Mid for laptop access. None earns a blanket “airline approved” promise here.

How I chose: I compared the linked models, listed features and practical trade-offs. These are buying opinions, not hands-on test scores. Listings and images checked September 9, 2026; offers can change.

Amazing: LEVEL8 Grace Expandable 20-inch — The laptop-access candidate

LEVEL8’s Grace Expandable 6576 series has a separate front compartment advertised for laptops up to 15.6 inches. That is the feature that earns Amazing for organizing a laptop trip: you can access a device without opening the main clothing section.

The listing gives overall dimensions of 21.8 by 14.5 by 9.8 inches, including wheels and handles, with additional expansion available. It also lists nine pounds. Check your laptop’s physical measurements and your airline’s bag rules; the headline’s 20-inch label is not the complete external size.

Good: Samsonite Freeform carry-on — A familiar divided suitcase layout

Samsonite Freeform carry-on

Samsonite Freeform lists an interior divider, elastic straps and a pouch for organizing packed items. The selected black case is an expandable hardside spinner. Good is a fit verdict for that conventional suitcase layout, not evidence that HBH has tested its wheels or shell.

The retail page gives 23 by 15 by 10 inches including wheels. That exceeds the cited Delta dimensions. A broad statement about meeting most airlines’ rules is not enough for your particular booking. Resolve any difference between seller measurements and the exact model’s specifications before ordering.

Mid: Amazon Basics 21-inch hardside — The budget comparison needs the same tape measure

Amazon Basics 21-inch hardside

Amazon Basics lists a hard shell, spinner wheels, a telescoping handle, a divider and three zippered pockets. It also offers expansion. The checked price was lower than the other two, making it a reasonable budget candidate for a trip where its dimensions are acceptable.

Mid is about easy laptop access, since the linked listing does not offer LEVEL8’s dedicated front laptop compartment. Its external size is listed as 21.7 by 14.8 by 10 inches. Expansion increases bulk; it does not grant extra cabin allowance. HBH has not tested any of these bags in an airline sizer.

Can I trust the words airline approved?

Use the actual operating airline’s published rule for your itinerary. Delta lists 22 × 14 × 9 inches including handles and wheels. All three listed cases exceed at least one of those dimensions, so choose a different verified size if strict compliance with that limit is required. Aircraft and baggage allowances can also affect what you may bring.

LEVEL8 wins the laptop-access brief, Samsonite offers a conventional organized interior, and Basics competes on cost. First make sure the bag fits your trip. A promising suitcase that fails your airline’s dimensions is the wrong purchase.
