I miss that little corner-of-the-internet feeling. So I started vibe coding over a weekend, and this is what we ended up with: MoodForge, a way to give the ChatGPT website some personality.
Same conversations. A space that feels more like yours. And, if you are so inclined, an astronaut rubber duck.
What does MoodForge actually do?
MoodForge is a browser extension for changing the appearance of the ChatGPT website. You choose a background in its theme studio, adjust your look, and apply it to your ChatGPT tabs. It is built for desktop Chrome and Microsoft Edge; it does not change the native ChatGPT desktop or mobile apps.
There are 100 customizable original backgrounds, scenic AI-generated artwork, and a growing artwork archive. Think colorful patterns, cosmic skies, rainy city scenes, or something delightfully strange behind your next brainstorm.
For the editable designs, you can play with colors, gradients, patterns, and grain. Save a look with a name, switch to something else, and come back when that mood returns. Unlimited background changes are included.
The focus dimmer tones down the background. Optional translucent reply bubbles put a dark panel behind responses, helping the text stand out while some of the design shows through.
Yes, the duck is part of the personality
That little astronaut is Commander Quackers. I love him an unreasonable amount.
He fits the whole point of MoodForge: useful software can have a sense of humor. Some days I want a quiet background. Other days, apparently, I need a duck in orbit while I make a to-do list. Both are valid decorating decisions.
The illustrated cover above is promotional artwork; the coral image in this article shows the extension actually running. MoodForge’s artwork uses AI-generated images, and the archive grows as new pieces are added.
What it costs, without the tiny-print surprise
MoodForge membership is $9.95 USD per year, plus any applicable taxes shown at checkout. It is billed annually and automatically renews until canceled. You can cancel renewal from your MoodForge account.
The membership includes every collection, unlimited changes, and saved personal looks. Installing the extension is free; applying its backgrounds requires a MoodForge membership. Your ChatGPT account and any ChatGPT subscription are separate.
You can browse the theme studio before deciding. The terms and refund information are available on the MoodForge website.
How to get started
- On your computer, open MoodForge in the Chrome Web Store and select Add to Chrome. Confirm the installation.
- Visit the MoodForge account page, sign in, and choose your membership.
- Open the installed MoodForge extension from Chrome’s extensions menu. In its studio, find Your membership, paste the one-time connection code from your MoodForge account, and select Connect browser.
- Choose a background. Adjust the available design controls, focus dimmer, and translucent reply-bubble option to your liking.
- Select Apply to ChatGPT, then open your ChatGPT tab to see it.
Use the installed extension’s studio for that connection step. The website’s studio is a preview. Keep your one-time connection code private.
A few things to know before you buy
This is a visual customization tool. It does not improve ChatGPT’s answers, unlock paid ChatGPT features, or change other AI websites. MoodForge is an independent extension and is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI.
You can change your saved look or turn the appearance off. You do not have to commit your entire personality to coral polka dots. I checked switching designs, restoring a saved look, turning the styling off and back on, and keeping the background after reopening Chrome during my own testing.
