Sony WH-1000XM6 vs Bose Ultra 2 vs MOMENTUM 4

Noise-canceling headphones — Sony WH-1000XM6 in Black in a dark HBH editorial composition

Honey’s verdict

For noise-canceling headphones with useful travel conveniences, Sony WH-1000XM6 gets Amazing on my feature shortlist. Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones 2nd Gen gets Good, especially if USB-C listening and movie features matter. Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 Wireless gets Mid for my compact-packing preference, but its much longer claimed battery life could make it your first choice.

How I chose: I checked the exact black U.S. Amazon listings, manufacturer documentation and press photos on September 10, 2026. I have not tested these headphones side by side. Runtime figures below are manufacturer claims; prices and offers can change.

Sony WH-1000XM6 vs Bose Ultra 2 is an easy comparison to overcomplicate. Add MOMENTUM 4 and the useful questions become clearer: how do you pack, which cable will you use, and will you remember to charge? A long specification list cannot rescue a pair that feels wrong on your head.

ChoiceClaimed runtimeTravel detail
Amazing: Sony WH-1000XM6Up to 30h with ANCFolding design; analog audio cable
Good: Bose Ultra 2nd GenUp to 30h; 23h with Immersive AudioFolding design; USB-C audio
Mid: Sennheiser M4Up to 60h with ANCFold-flat storage; USB and analog audio

ANC means active noise cancellation. These figures are not from one controlled comparison. Sony’s own guide, for example, lists up to 26 hours with ANC when using LDAC rather than the 30-hour figure available with several other codecs. Settings matter.

Sony gives the XM6 a folding mechanism and a case with a magnetic closure. Those are small conveniences, but they are the sort I would weigh heavily for headphones that come out at the airport, go away during boarding and come out again at the seat.

Its Adaptive NC Optimizer adjusts cancellation according to factors such as fit and surroundings. The Sound Connect app provides sound and control settings, while multipoint connectivity helps when moving between devices. A supplied analog audio cable gives you a wired option alongside Bluetooth.

My reason to shortlist Sony is that combination of packing and connection features. The trade-off is runtime: its standard ANC claim is half Sennheiser’s headline figure, and some settings reduce it further. If charging is the task you always forget, the last option deserves more than a glance.

Good: Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones 2nd Gen for wired listening and films

The second-generation Ultra adds USB-C lossless audio from compatible devices and source files. Bose documents 16-bit playback at 44.1 or 48kHz. For someone who wants to plug into a laptop as well as listen wirelessly, that is a concrete reason to consider this generation.

Bose also includes Cinema Mode, designed to spatialize video audio, and retains a folding design. Those features make it an appealing alternative if films fill much of your travel time. They do not establish that every listener will prefer the effect; I would treat spatial processing as an option to try rather than the sole reason to spend more.

Watch the battery fine print. Bose’s claim is up to 30 hours, or 23 with Immersive Audio enabled. I would choose it over Sony when the documented USB-C listening option fits my routine. If your headphones mainly play Bluetooth music, compare the current prices and fit before treating the extra features as essential.

Mid: Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 Wireless for packing, strong on stated battery life

MOMENTUM 4 has the biggest battery claim here: up to 60 hours of Bluetooth music with ANC active. Its manual also documents USB audio and an analog cable connection. For a reader trying to minimize charging stops, those are substantial reasons to put this model first.

Sennheiser describes the storage design as fold-flat. I prefer the folding arrangements of the other two for my compact-packing brief, which is why this gets Mid in this comparison. Look at the case shape against the space in your own bag before deciding that preference matters to you.

This is the model introduced in 2022, and the exact listing remains available to compare. Its age is not a reason to dismiss useful features. If the current price is attractive, you like the fit and the storage arrangement works, its claimed runtime gives it a clear role.

Which headphones support USB-C audio?

Bose Ultra 2nd Gen and MOMENTUM 4 both have documented USB audio support. Sennheiser’s manual explains selecting the headphones as the connected device’s audio output. Sony documents a separate analog headphone cable for wired listening. Match your laptop or phone’s connection to the supported audio method; being able to charge while listening does not, by itself, prove that sound travels through the charging cable.

What should you check before buying headphones for a flight?

Check the aircraft’s entertainment connection if seatback films matter, then make sure you have the appropriate cable or adapter. Next, consider how the case fits your bag and whether the ear cushions work with your glasses. Comfort is personal, so a clear return policy is useful when you cannot try the headphones first.

For long trips with few charging opportunities, start with MOMENTUM 4’s runtime claim. For folding convenience and a range of everyday controls, shortlist Sony. For USB-C listening plus Bose’s movie features, shortlist Ultra 2nd Gen.

If you want shared music at home instead of personal listening, our Echo speaker comparison covers that separate job.
